Last week, we reviewed Netflix’s latest all-action hit Extraction and the film continues to reach new heights of success – it’s on its way to becoming the most watched feature film ever on the streaming service. Joe Russo, the writer, has now confirmed that he is going to write a sequel to it with hopes that Sam Hargrave will return as the director.

To answer the questions posed in the film and in our article, Chris Hemsworth might be reprising his role of Tyler Rake – so he surely did survive at the end! Or did he?

“The deal is closed for me to write Extraction 2, and we are in the formative stages of what the story can be. We’re not committing yet to whether that story goes forward, or backward in time. We left a big loose ending that leaves question marks for the audience.

There was always a simple drive to the story, a balletic execution of action where you take a damaged character who made an egregious mistake in the past and has a shot at redemption which might be fatal. What was key is that we needed a muscular action director like Sam to be the main creative force in the execution of the action.”

There is no official deal in place for Chris Hemsworth to join again as Russo has stated that he wants to have a firm script in place that he will show him before any deals are made. But Hemsworth hasn’t hidden his pride with regards to the project as he took to social media only recently to thank fans for their support as it was announced that 90 million households have watched Extraction.

It’s been a positive year for the Russo brothers who are just coming down from the success of Avengers: Endgame. Could this be their new franchise? We will be providing updates as they come so make sure you are following.
