Hamilton will be available to watch on Disney+ on the 3rd of July this year, a whole year earlier than it was due to be released in cinemas. This decision comes from the fact that cinemas will likely be closed for the foreseeable future due to coronavirus.
Many production companies have already made the decision to either delay their release of their upcoming films or to release them digitally. However, Disney have decided to hold back the releases of Mulan and Black Widow until they can be released on the big screen. But this decision shows that Disney is willing to spread out their releases to their streaming service if needs be. Disney’s release of their streaming service couldn’t have come at a better time as most of their other outlets are having an increased impact from coronavirus with their parks and cruises being shut until further notice.
Disney + now has over 54 million subscribers globally, many of whom welcomed the news of Hamilton coming to the small screen – especially with the beloved Lin Manuel Miranda starring in it.
