The prequel book to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is due to be released any time soon. It’s titled The Ballad of Songbird and Snakes and already has a film underway. To whet the appetite of The Hunger Games fans, the first chapter was released on the official Twitter.
Following a young Coriolanus Snow before his presidency, the first chapter has revealed that Tigris, a Capitol stylist who appeared in Mockingjay is in fact, his cousin. The rest of the book will no doubt reveal what happened between the pair in order for Tigris to help the rebels to fight against him by providing them with clothes to help them sneak in. The chapter opens with Snow preparing for his reaping ceremony when he was 18 years old, being helped by Tigris to prepare what he is going to wear. Whatever follows is clearly enough to tear the two apart.
For the film adaptation of the prequel, the director of Catching Fire and the two-part Mockingjay films Francis Lawrence will be returning with Michael Arndt and Nina Jacobson in charge of screenplay. With President Snow one of the more interesting villains in modern fiction, it will be interesting to see how he became the way he was – or whether he was always born evil.
