Carice Van Houten, star of Game Of Thrones who played Red Priestess Melisandre has recently stated in an interview with Insider that she thought the reaction to the finale of the series was ‘ungrateful’. It’s been a year since the finale aired and it has still left fans disappointed with how it finished; not just with the finale, either. The last series was rife with episodes that fan hated.

We are currently rewatching the series from the start and writing meta analyses on each of them which you can read here.

But Carice, who appeared in the series for the majority of it as the mysterious Melisandre, had some choice words to throw back at the fans.

The fact that some people were so disappointed is because everything before that was so good. So it feels a bit ungrateful. You’ve had such great times and then yeah, you’re going to be disappointed because it’s not going to go exactly how you anticipated. Of course, you’re going to have all sorts of criticisms and I just thought it was a sign of how good the show was.

People sometimes take it too far and get too personal, but I can’t take that seriously. I just thought it’s people being really emotional about this show. It just always amazes me how people can go behind their computer and just type ‘die bitch die,’ I’m fascinated by that human psyche.

While we can’t help but agree with Carice that the backlash was too strong when the show runners got personally targeted, people had put a lot of time into the show and there had been plenty of decisions made in the past by show runners D.B. Weiss and David Benioff that were wrong on more levels than just narratively. With that in mind, the ending was accused of being ‘rushed’ and the final series had the least amount of episodes in which also spoke of its pacing.
