Michael Bay is working on a new film called Songbird which will begin production in the next few weeks. It is set two years from current time, showing how coronavirus mutated and forced the world into multiple sets of lockdowns and the effect that it had on society. Adam Mason will be directing the film and co-writing with Simon Boyes.

It’s not the first film to cash in on the pandemic as Corona was the one to snatch the title. But the interest in films regarding pandemics such as Contagion and Outbreak have recently regained popularity due to the fact that the world is currently living through a pandemic themselves. Aside from the basic details, we don’t know what the story will entail or who the cast will be but it will be similar to Cloverfield in that it’s likely the majority of the shots will be from the point of view of video group chats.

But then again, this is Michael Bay so it’s likely that there will be explosions and high-intensity action sequences that we can look forward to. Whether it’s a bit too soon for a coronavirus film or not will be left up to the critics as our future is clearly uncertain about what will happen in the coming months and years. So it could be too close for comfort for consumers or an escapist film that’s come just at the right time.

What do you think? Would you be interested in seeing the film? Let us know in the comments below and be sure to follow for film news and updates on new projects.

  1. Oh …. I wonder whether the fictitious virus would be wiped out by one massive boom. And whether in the midst of a disease-ridden wasteland, women would be sunning themselves in bikinis.

If he’s staying on brand then that’s quite likely! Thanks for reading.
