There has been an ongoing fight over which studio will take on Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon which will be starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in the lead roles. But now, Apple and Paramount will take on the distribution together with Paramount taking on the cinemas and Apple to distribute the film its streaming service.
It will mark the biggest film to be released on the streaming service yet and shows how much of a competitor Apple could truly be in the film industry. It’s also recently taken on Greyhound, written by and starring Tom Hanks.
The film is an adaptation of the David Grann novel, Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. It details the mysterious string of murders of rich Osage Native Americans back in the 1920s when oil was discovered beneath their sacred grounds. The investigations were the prompt for the FBI to be created and was a pivotal part of American history.
De Niro and DiCaprio haven’t worked together since This Boy’s Life of which DiCaprio thanked De Niro for his tutoring as he became a breakout actor.
