James Cameron and Jon Landau, director and producer of Avatar respectively have returned to Wellington, New Zealand in order to resume filming of the Avatar film series.
The filming will not begin immediately as they will have to follow through with the two week quarantine period. How did they get through the border controls while they’re still closed? Cameron and Landau used an exemption clause for ‘significant economic value’. This is due to the fact that the Avatar films are receiving money from the New Zealand location subsidy scheme for foreign film and TV shoots.
When production does begin, it will be for the second, third and some of the fourth instalment to the franchise. It’s the first film to use this clause but could it open up the clause for other foreign productions?
