Safety guidelines have been published by the UK Cinema Association detailing how drive-in cinemas can reopen in England.
There are currently only 20 drive-in cinemas across the UK but this could change if traditional cinemas are unable to reopen due to the current coronavirus pandemic. The guidelines provided focus on maintaining social distancing, good hygiene and how the drive-ins can serve food and drink to their customers.
“It’s fair I think to say that we’ve been on a steep learning curve around the operation of drive-in cinemas given their relative scarcity until now.Phil Clapp, Chief Executive for UK Cinema Association
While we will be delighted to see drive-ins flourish in the coming weeks, months and years, our key focus remains ensuring that the hundreds of cinema venues across the U.K. that have now been closed for almost three months are able to open as soon as possible. Our work on guidelines for those sites continues, and we hope to make an announcement soon.”
This currently only relates to drive-ins in England, not across the entirety of the UK.
